Tolkien fans from all over the world came to Birmingham this May and celebrated the influence the city had within Tolkien’s writings. This is no ordinary event; the middle earth festival brings together fans of the great fantasy novels. To show their enthusiasm people of all ages dress up as the enchanted characters, like hobbits, elves and evil orcs.
This event brings to life, how influential Birmingham was to the Tolkien’s literatures, showing locals and fans from afar the life of Tolkien who brought tales like The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. This is the 13th year the event has been running for, and every year it continues to grow.
It also gives a chance from Tolkien societies from across the world, to meet and share their fervour, such as Birmingham’s Isengaro.
Stratford has William Shakespeare, Birmingham has JRR Tolkien.
